Witness Statement (Patterson)
I was looking out
of a window waiting to get phone line. The airplane came
almost directly over the house, flying almost due north.
As it passed over the house, I could see the lights of
the plane and since it was so low and flying in the
direction, I was struck by that fact. As I watched the
lights going toward the mountain, it sounded to me that
he cut his motors just before the crash. I was able to
hear crash plainly and saw the flames rise. It was not on
fire before it struck the mountain. It struck Sharp Top
Mountain of the Peaks of Otter. The engines sounded
perfect as it went over. After crash I stepped outside
and watched a moment, and then phoned police officer in
Bedford. I live between the Mountain and Bedford,
slightly west of a straight line, about six miles from
Bedford, and 2 1/2 to 3 miles from Mountain.
