A Mother's Love Reaches Out
Shortly after the B25 crashed on Sharp Top Mountain, Mr. McClure (father of the Copilot who died, Lt. William McClure) received the following note from a woman who lived close to the crash site. The note was written with pencil on brown paper and contained many errors in spelling and grammar. The message, however, makes such cosmetic flaws very insignificant. I have reproduced the note exactly as written:
"Bedford, Virginia

March 1934

Dear Mr. McClure

Just a line as I read a not Mr. Burks wrote in the county paper stating you like a token of the crash.

You and all love one have my sincer sympathy. It was the awfullest thing ever taken place around here. My husband help carrie the bodys from the mountain. The crash taken place about to miles from our home and if you all ever come to Va and would like to visite the spjot we be glad to show you the way.

My husband and little boy was there Sunday they found a belt buckel from one of the boys belt of corce we never know which it belongs to so I sending it to you and the cliping of the paper. And if you like a piece of the plain we get some of that as it scatter quite a distance down the mountain side.
